Version 7.3 of the HMC code changed the authority requirements for a command used by APRM.
With version 7.3 of the HMC code, IBM has changed the requirements for executing the rsthwres command. Prior to this release, a taskrole of hmcoperator was sufficient and that is what was documented in the APRM Technical Manual. At HMC version 7.3 and later, this command requires a taskrole of hmcsuperadmin.
APRM cannot successfully execute a required command without sufficient authority and, therefore, fails to force a restore of incorrect hardware information presented by the HMC. The HMC will have incorrect information under some circumstances, particularly following a Dynamic LPAR (DLPAR) operation which succeeds only partially. If APRM cannot get self-consistent data about the state of one or more partitions of the i5 server controlled by the HMC, it will not attempt to move these resources between partitions.
Because software versions 7.3 and later of the HMC require more authority (a higher taskrole) than prior versions, tuning of resources may be delayed or stopped entirely for a period of time.
Change the taskrole for the user profile assigned for APRM's use on each of the HMCs controlling the i5 server to hmcsuperadmin via standard HMC user management. This change will take effect immediately.
